What is Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state.
The way that we think operates on a spectrum between the external awareness of here and now, associated with the conscious part of your mind, and an internal awareness of our thoughts, day dreams and engrained habitual behaviour associated with the sub conscious part.
We use the external end of the spectrum when we are talking to someone listening to what they say, learning a new task. or when we respond to external stimuli; a moment later we may move to an internal focus as we reflect on something, recall a memory or imagine a future scenario. Day dreaming and letting your thoughts wander are typical examples of your mind turning inwards.
We are constantly moving between this thinking spectrum as we encounter and deal with events and people.
This internal focus is what is commonly called a trance state or hypnosis. Hypnosis is therefore a naturally occurring state that we all experience all of the time.
Hypnotherapy is a safe therapeutic technique that enables healing through a simple process of relaxation as you turn your attention inwards accessing the subconscious part of your mind, where your habitual thoughts are stored.
States of trance or hypnosis are used successfully in hypnotherapy, medicine, dentistry and psychotherapy, to bring about a positive outcome.
Hypnotherapy is a very successful technique to tackle worries, fears, panic attacks lack of confidence and forms of depression. All of these come from negative thoughts in relation to what we think we can and can’t do.
Hypnotherapy will help you develop new patterns of thinking using your own inner resourances enabling you to change these negative beliefs that are causing you unhappiness or holding you back from being the person you wish to be.
To achieve this the primary factor is your conscious motivation to want to change. Utilising this the sessions will focus on providing positive suggestions and new ways of addressing life issues to your subconscious mind, helping to change the way you think and act in a way that is safe and beneficial to you.
At all times you are in control and aware of what is going on.
It’s all very simple and there is no mystique. The skill is in the therapists ability to listen to you, understand the issues that are important to you and provide an intervention that will successfully enable you to achieve your goals.
