Kindness is Good for You
admin | March 27, 2010Up to date research presented in Dr David Hamilton’s Book Why Kindness is Good for You highlights the beneficial effect on the brain and your emotions of acting with kindness and compassion. Compassion is something we can practice and increase in our lives.
He writes “MRI studies now show that thinking the same thoughts over and over again caauses strutural changes in the brain.” The more you think about and practise compassion the greater your capacity to be compassionate. But the reverse is also true. The more you think negatively the more netative you will become. You have a choice. And your life will be as your choice is.
Research studies have shown that “practising compassion every day flexes the area of the brain that processes it not, only making it easier to feel compassion in the future, but impacting the fine brain structure.” What you think literally changes the structure of your brain.
As a start practise doing a loving kindness meditation, or prayer every day. See our page on spiritual counselling.
